Responsible Pet Ownership
WE ARE FAMILY
A guide to nurturing the child / pet relationship. It is aimed at educating expectant and new parents on the advantages of allowing their child to experience the joys of pet ownership. It also informs you of the potential risks, and provides the knowledge, skills and strategies to ensure that the experience is not only a physically and emotionally enriching one, but a safe one as well.

Guide - Dogs and Cats
Dogs and cats provide great companionship for people of all ages, but owning a pet also involves serious responsibilities. As well as looking after the health and happiness of your pet, you must also ensure that your dog or cat fits successfully into your neighbourhood and local environment. Seek advice about the most appropriate pet for your circumstances and avoid impulse purchase or adoption of a pet.

Unrestrained dogs can attack or harass people and other animals. Wandering cats can kill native wildlife and be a nuisance to neighbours particularly during feline mating season. Then there are other issues like barking dogs, rushing (bouncy) dogs, unwanted litters of kittens and puppies, and dog poo in public spaces.

This information has been prepared for pet owners and non-pet owners to help make living with dogs and cats in Monash as enjoyable as possible for everyone.
