Dads at Home

Peter Bourke

Blundah (sic)

You find in your day, ways to involve your children all the time. After helping with the washing, my daughter became able to recognise different items of clothing and who they belonged to.

One day we went to the shops and my daughter asks "Why are we here dad?" and I say "To get some things", trying to keep low key. Then suddenly in a loud voice, she exclaims "No dad you've got really big undies! These are too small". Perhaps in future I ensure I am a little less revealing when it comes to certain items of clothing being hung on the clothes line.

It amazes me how even the youngest minds can very quickly make connections between things that you show them. I had to laugh recently when leaning down to tidy up toys my 20 month old son picked up a comb and began to comb the lowest part of my back, (as my shirt crept up my back from bending down).

My son obviously connected the concept of combing with hair and naturally when he saw some hair he began to comb it. He has never tried brushing hairs on my legs or arms so it leads me to believe that I must have a forest of hair on my back!
