The Accommodation Charge

All residents except concessional residents are required to pay an Accommodation Charge.

The Charge is set according to the applicant's total assets. A financial statement should be completed with each application. A resident can only be charged an Accommodation Charge if their total assets exceed $36,000.

The family home will be ignored as an asset if a spouse still lives in the home, and in certain other circumstances.

The current maximum Accommodation Charges are $26.88 per day for non-pensioners and $25.02 per day for residents in receipt of a pension. A resident must have at least $91,410.40 in order to be levied the maximum Accommodation Charge.

Accommodation Charge. Residents whose assets are between $36,000 and $91,410.40 will pay a calculated amount of the Accommodation Charge.

Interest of 4% per annum may be charged for any Accommodation Charge payments more than 30 days overdue.

Residents transferring from hostel to nursing home may pay an accommodation bond instead of the accommodation charge. Refer to the facility for details.

Respite Care

Each person approved for respite care is entitled to 63 days respite care per financial year in a high level care facility.

Elizabeth Gardens Nursing Home and Monash Gardens Nursing Home do not offer respite care.

Basic Care Fees

All residents pay a basic care fee. The basic daily care fee is $36.94 per day.

Fees are payable monthly by bank account direct debit.

The basic care fee is indexed twice yearly in line with the aged pension in March and September each year. In order to be classed as a pensioner for aged care you need to hold a current Pensioner Concession Care (PCC) or receive a means tested pension or benefit from either Centrelink or the Department of Veterans' Affairs.
Income-Tested Fees

The Department of Ageing will determine whether a resident pays an additional income-tested fee. This fee is calculated from information obtained from Centrelink or Veterans' Affairs.

Full pensioners do not normally pay an income-tested fee.

Income tested fees are calculated as 5/12th of total assessable income over the income thresholds per fortnight for a single person or each member of a couple.

Non-Pensioners or Self-funded retirees may pay up to an additional $59.38 per day, depending on their income. Self-funded retirees need to complete a financial declaration with Centrelink at the time of admission, or they will be assessed the maximum fee applicable.
