Immunisation is a simple, safe and effective way of protecting children against certain diseases. The risks of these diseases are far greater than the very small risks of immunisation.
Q. What do I do if I miss a session?
A. You may attend a later session in the same month, or your regular session next month. There is no need to notify the Council of the change.Q. What do I bring to the Immunisation session?
A. Your child’s personal Health Record Book must be taken to every immunisation session you attend.Q. How long do I need to wait after immunisation?
A. The Department of Human Services recommends that all children be observed for 15 minutes after any vaccination.Q. My baby has a cold. Should I still continue with the immunisation?
A. A baby with a minor cough or cold without a fever or are receiving antibiotics in the recovery phase of an acute illness can safely be immunised. Immunisation should only be postponed if a child is very unwell or has a high fever over 38° C.Q. My child has an allergy to egg. Should I get my baby immunised against Measles, Mumps and Rubella?
A. Egg allergy, even anaphylactic egg allergy is NOT a contraindication to immunisation with MMR vaccine. At the Royal Children's Hospital 400 children with a history of egg allergy were vaccinated with MMR vaccine and only 4 had minor reactions and none required treatment.Q. Can I bath my child tonight after having had the immunisation?
A. Yes it is advisable to treat the baby as you normally would and it is quite safe to bath the baby.Q. Is your child due to start school next year?
A. A School Entry Immunisation Certificate will be sent either from Australian Childhood Immunisation Register (ACIR) or from Medicare Offices if vaccination schedule completed in Australia to include 4 year old vaccination.
