Kingsway Roadworks - October Update
The works are now well underway and are scheduled for completion shortly.
Most of the new kerb and channel has been installed and the new road alignment has been created. Whilst not all lanes are marked and available for use, vehicles are utilising the road on the new alignment.
Apart from minor works associated with the traffic signal installation, the pedestrian areas on the southern side of Coleman Parade are complete. The paving adjacent to the central carpark will be completed by the end of this week and the area will then be reopened to the public.
The remaining footpath paving is expected to be completed within the next week.
This Sunday and Monday the contractor has programmed to place the final asphalt layer to the road pavement. These works will cause significant disruption to traffic and to lesser extent pedestrians as various sections of the road are closed while the asphalting is being undertaken. The closures are required to ensure that vehicles do not damage the new surface while the asphalt is cooling down and that we are able to achieve a good quality surface.
- The installation of a new water main and telephone service and the reinstatement of the area on the western side of Kingsway in front of the existing shops between Coleman Parade and Railway Parade North;
- The installation of new traffic signal poles at both the Railway Parade North and Coleman Parade intersection with Kingsway.
It is expected that after next week the disruptions will reduce as the works approach completion.
Whilst significant disruption will occur within the next few days the contractor will attempt to minimise the inconvenience as much as practicable.
