Positive Ageing Lifestyle Program - Winter 2008
Golden Age Transit Network
The Golden Age Transit Network is a joint initiative in partnership with the City of Monash and Uniting Aged Care.
Offering a staff assisted public transport outing focuses on getting the older members of the community either onto public transport for the first time or re-introduce them to the public transport system.
It is an opportunity to assist with re-educating individuals of the benefits of public transport and also removing any fears or barriers that may be associated with using public transport, i.e. Unfamiliar with the ticketing system, where and how to purchase a ticket, which station to get on/off at, low entry trains/trams and busses, and so on.
Providing an opportunity to participate in semi organised outings will encourage and support the older community members to increase their self-confidence and ultimately access alternative means of transport of their own accord. To date there has been one day trip organised, catching the train into the City visiting the Pancake Parlour for lunch followed by the Immigration Museum.
It was a great day and further in the program you will see there are other day trips on offer involving the public transport system. (See photos at Autumn Reflections)
