A central enrolment scheme for four-year old pre-school is managed by Council. Children can be enrolled from 18 months of age.

Smiles 4 Mile

Smiles 4 Miles is an initiative of Dental Health Services Victoria working in partnership with the City of Monash to improve oral health for preschool aged children. The program aims to encourage and recognise early childhood settings who are leading the way in promoting healthy environments for children. The program uses a multifaceted approach including curriculum, policy, parent engagement, community links and role modelling.

The program gives preschools the opportunity to explore and implement innovative ways to promote a healthy environment using the key messages:

Eat Well – promoting fresh fruit and vegetables rather than pre-packaged foods that are high in sugar and/or fat
Drink Well – promoting water rather than sweet drinks
Clean Well – encouraging regular tooth brushing supported by parents

The City of Monash, particularly in Ashwood, Clayton and Oakleigh, aims for all children attending early childhood services in these areas to experience good oral health through Smiles 4 Miles. Good oral health can contribute to the general wellbeing of all children. In addition, it is a key factor in determining healthy habits and development later in life.
