Annual Hard Waste and Green Waste Collection

The annual City of Monash Hard Rubbish and Green Waste collection will run between September and October. Residents will be notified by mail two weeks prior to the collection day for your area*.

*Ashwood, Burwood, Chadstone, Clayton, Glen Waverley, Hughesdale, Huntingdale, Mount Waverley, Mulgrave, Notting Hill, Oakleigh and Wheelers Hill.

 Until Council contractors collect your hard or green waste, please keep material for collection on your nature strip neat, ensuring it does not endanger the community.

Sink, furniture

TRUCK 1 - HARD WASTE

  • Carpet/Linoleum rolled and tied no longer than 1.5m in length.
  • Fencing in small panels (no projecting nails).
  • China, window glass and mirrors. (securely wrapped and marked 'glass' or 'china')
  • Household furniture.
  • Mattresses and bed bases
  • Timber no longer than 1.5m in length and less than 50kg in weight.
  • Televisions, computers, printers.
Hazardous waste no NO
  • Rubble, concrete, bricks or excavated material.
  • Industrial or hazardous waste, including asbestos.
  • Waste motor oil, liquid waste, chemicals or pesticides.
  • Materials from professional renovations and building sites.
  • Household garbage.
  • Tyres of any type.
  • Recyclables (bottles, paper, plastic).
  • Items greater than 1.5 meters in length.
  • Car batteries.
  • Paint.

 All items for collection must be placed out on the nature strip, be no more than 1.5 metres in length and be able to be lifted by two persons.


TRUCK 2 - GREEN WASTE

Tree root, leaves

Remember: You must put material in 3 separate stacks.

  • Tree stumps or roots (able to be lifted by one person).
  • Tree cuttings and prunings, (less than 75mm in diameter), bundled and tied with twine or string (max. 1.5m in length).
  • Grass clippings, weeds, vines and leaves, placed in open containers (all containers will be left) with no soil.
  • Single tree limbs, minimum 75mm in diameter, free of branches and leaves. (max. 1.5m in length and less than 50kg in weight.)

  • Tree prunings or branches, items in excess of 50kg or 1.5m in length.
  • Soil, earth or topsoil.
  • Do not tie prunings with wire or plastic.
  • No plastic bags or wheelie bins to be used.
  • No limbs heavier than 50kg.
  • No untied prunings.
 Green Waste is recycled into compost and mulch.

TRUCK 3 - METAL AND WHITEGOODS

Washing machins, fridge

Metals and whitegoods will be recycled for further use

  • Scrap metal.
  • Empty oil heaters and tanks.
  • Empty paint tins. (Lids off)
  • Motor mowers.
  • Baths.
  • Spouting no more then 1.5m length.
  • Metal car parts and car panels (no more than 1.5m long and 50kg in weight)
  • White goods and appliances e.g. stoves, washing machines, air conditioners, refrigerators, freezers, etc.
    Refrigerator doors must be removed.
  • Hot water systems.
  • Metal tools and equipment.
  • Play equipment no more than 1.5m length.

  • Water tanks, either whole or dismantled.
  • Gas bottles
 SCAVENGING !
Scavenging is an offence under local law and offenders will be prosecuted.

Essential guidelines to ensure your Hard, Metal and Green Waste is collected

Materials for collection
  1. Material must be separated into 3 stacks - hard waste, green waste and metal waste - or it may not be collected. Each stack of waste material will be collected by three different trucks at three different times of the week.
  2. Ensure waste material is out before 6am on the Monday of your collection week. Ensure no vehicles are parked in front of materials to be collected.
  3. Using the lists in this leaflet, check to make sure the material you have for collection is acceptable.
  4. All items must be able to be lifted to shoulder height by two men (weighs less than 50kg) and be no longer than 1.5m.
