Meet Your Street Grants

Meet Your Street aims to support local residents to hold neighbourhood events or activities as a way for neighbours to interact and engage with each other.

Do you have an idea to Meet Your Street? We're supporting Monash residents to get to know their neighbours by providing grants of up to $500 for Meet Your Street activities.

Initially the Meet Your Street Grants are open to residents living within four pilot areas in Ashwood, Glen Waverley, Clayton and Wheelers Hill. We hope the project will be expanded across the municipality in the future.

Read the Meet Your Street Grant Guidelines (pdf, 225KB) to check if your idea meets the criteria and read the Pilot Areas Maps (pdf, 2MB) to see if you live within the pilot areas.

For more information, please contact Kate Bolaffi, Meet Your Street Project Officer, on 9518 3531 or email kate.bolaffi@monash.vic.gov.au.

Benefits of knowing your neighbours

There are many benefits of knowing your neighbours:

  • Knowing your neighbours helps create an atmosphere of trust, safety, belonging and social connection in the local community.
  • It can improve your health and wellbeing. Better social connection is recognised as a key way to maintain good mental and physical health.
  • It helps with safety and crime prevention, so you know who lives where and who to call on in case of emergencies.
  • And lastly, it could be fun and you could make some new friends!

Ways to meet your street

There are many ways to get to know your neighbours and we encourage you to be creative about how to connect with them. Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Celebrate a cultural event together such as decorating your street with lights to celebrate Diwali (Festival of Lights)
  • Organise a street clean up
  • Get creative and decorate your house number or letterboxes together
  • Start a neighbourhood street library
  • Create a communal compost bin
  • Have a Street Party

Read our Meet Your Street Guide (pdf, 3MB) for more information.
