Compassion and kindness connect us to each other and studies show these qualities help build resilience.

Even though we are limited in what we can do, showing kindness and compassion in all interactions, however small, will make a difference in how we feel. And don’t forget to Sign Your Smile when you’re out for your daily exercise.

Using the AUSLAN symbol for smile (your thumb and index finger in a tick) in front of your mouth (not touching your mask) is one way of connecting at a distance.

Other ways include:

  • Checking in on an elderly neighbour
  • Calling friends and family for a chat
  • Online catchups – share a meal, a games night or put on music and dance remotely together
  • Do a grocery shop for someone who can’t
  • Ask the person who’s serving you how their day is going
  • Be a good listener
  • Treat the kids to a movie night at home
  • Cook a special meal together
  • Show compassion
