Upgrade to Holmesglen Reserve

Rugby team

Council is upgrading the Holmesglen Reserve (Ashwood) to improve the playing surface of the rugby pitch.

These works, which started in early September 2018, are an exciting project for the local sports clubs and park users, ensuring the ground remains usable throughout the winter months.

March 2019 update:

  • Minor irrigation adjustments completed, and new irrigation cabinet installed
  • Mowing works commenced and continue
  • Upcoming works to come, including completion of coaches boxes, synthetic pads, central control irrigation
  • Intensive maintenance period of around 12 weeks will continue.

The works will significantly improve drainage and drought tolerance with the installation of the new turf surface and a highly-effcient irrigation system.

The pitch upgrade and associated works are expected to take around four months to complete, at which point the grow-in period of the new turf will commence.

The ground will be closed for sports use for up to 12 months, however will be re-opened for general community recreation use in May 2019. A fence will be placed around the rugby field until this time.

There will be some disruption to park users and access to the main carpark will be limited until early 2019. The Jingella Reserve sports field (the second rugby pitch) and wetlands area will remain open as normal, with only some minor disruptions due to machinery access and trenching of pipe connections, as required.
