Update - VCAT approval

Following a compulsory conference at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the matter of 855-869 Ferntree Gully Road, Wheelers Hill has been resolved.

Under delegation and following the majority of Councillors giving consent at a Council Briefing, an amended proposal for the site has been approved.

The amended proposal allows for the construction of no more than 65 dwellings (2-3 storeys in height above basement car parking), removal of vegetation on land affected by Vegetation Protection Overlay 1, and alteration of access to a Road Zone (Category 1).

Background

Council received an application on a proposal for 80 dwellings at 855-869 Ferntree Gully Road, Wheelers Hill (the former gym site).

Please note: this is a separate proposal by a different applicant for this site. The previous application was withdrawn and the land was sold to new owners. 

Feedback was formally sought by Tuesday 18 September 2018.

The applicant then lodged a Failure to Determine appeal with VCAT in early 2019. 

The applicant, PLC Consulting, proposed a $23 million development that includes:

  • Construction of 80 dwellings on the site, ranging between two and three storeys in height 
  • Dwelling mix comprises 61 x 3 bedroom dwellings and 19 x 4 bedroom dwellings, each provided with two car spaces 
  • A total of 18 visitor car spaces provided on site 
  • All vehicle access to the development will be from the existing crossover opening to Jells Road. No vehicle access is proposed from Ferntree Gully Road
  • Removal of vegetation.
