Clayton Train Station Upgrades

31 December 2014

Advocating for our community

On behalf of Clayton residents, Council is lobbying the Victorian Government to ensure the redeveloped Clayton train station becomes a well-connected and attractive transport hub.

In mid-2014, the government released preliminary designs for the redevelopment of Clayton station. Council was disappointed with the initial designs and provided this feedback to the government. Council also encouraged local residents to provide feedback to the government.

The government has said that all feedback received during this phase of community consultation will be carefully considered when developing further detailed designs. The next stage of community consultation is expected to take place in early 2015 when detailed designs are released.

Council's Position

Council was pleased with the Napthine Government's plan to put the train line and station below Clayton Road. Council has been pushing for the removal of the level crossing for many years, as it is a traffic nightmare for local residents and delays ambulances on their way to the nearby Monash Medical Centre.

While Council was a strong supporter of removing the level crossing, there were concerns that the Government's preliminary plans didn't provide for easy, effortless connections between the railway station and buses, or provide for bikes.

Council made a submission to the then Victorian Government, advocating for the best outcome possible for the Clayton community.
