Do you have an idea about an improvement Council could make in Monash? Maybe you think we could improve a bike path near your home, boost funding to a playground or update some of our sporting facilities.
Now is the time to let us know your views…
We are seeking community views and ideas to help us develop a Council budget for the 2018/19 year and we are keen to hear from you. Ideas and comments are sought until Friday 15 December 2017:
To provide some context:
- Council is in a strong financial position, and has been debt-free for the past two and a half years. Last year, Council invested $38 million on Capital Works to improve the liveability of Monash. These works included a number of significant community projects including playspace improvements, sporting pavilions, and bike paths. In the next year, we plan one of our largest allocations of $45 million to lift the standard of infrastructure regularly used by our community while also providing excellent services.
- Monash continues to have the lowest average rates of all 79 councils in Victoria with rates only increasing in line with State Government rate capping. Monash ratepayers pay on average about $400 less per year.
We will be seeking community views twice on our next budget: now in the early stages and again next May when we put a draft budget out for community feedback. We are doing this because we are genuine about consulting with our community on improvements in Monash.
