Council is undertaking a study into the feasibility of establishing a community space to celebrate Indian culture and heritage.
Council sought community feedback by Tuesday 20 June 2017.
The draft report of the Feasibility Study Indian Community Centre, Oakleigh was submitted by Monash Council to the funding body, the Victorian State Government, in October 2017. Council looks forward to receive feedback from the State Government.
People of Indian heritage make up the second largest migrant group in Monash (after people of Chinese heritage) and Monash has the fifth largest Indian-born population in Victoria.
While the local Indian Australian community is very involved in wider community life, several Monash Indian community leaders and groups have expressed the need for a community space to celebrate Indian culture and heritage.
Council was granted $50,000 by the State Government to undertake this feasibility study into establishing an Indian cultural centre in Oakleigh.
