Clayton residents asked Council to lobby on their behalf for a 24 hour police station in Clayton. This request was made by residents at a Special Council Meeting in July 2014.
The Clayton police station currently only operates from 8am-4pm Monday to Friday and is closed on weekends.
Council strongly supported Clayton residents in their campaign for a stronger police presence. We know that having a strong police presence helps residents feel safer. In 2012 we asked our community to tell us how Council could help make our neighbourhood safer. Residents told us their number one priority was that we "advocate for more policing".
The Victorian Liberal Government had announced a redevelopment of the Clayton railway station, presenting an ideal opportunity to deliver a new 24 hour police station as part of that redevelopment. This suggestion was raised by several Clayton residents and was unanimously endorsed as a priority by more than 100 residents who attended the Special Council Meeting in July.
Council offered a community forum on policing in Clayton in October, concurrently with an online petition which began on Monday 15 September 2014.
