In early 2016, Council sought community views on how Christmas could be celebrated in the city’s major shopping areas.
The consultation closed on Thursday 21 April 2016.
Last year, the celebrations included external colourful lighting of major buildings (including the Civic Centre in Glen Waverley and the Euneva building in Glen Waverley) and fairy lights on the arbour outside the entrance to Centro in Oakleigh.
Christmas banners were also erected in the major shopping areas (Kingsway, Oakleigh, Clayton, Mount Waverley and Pinewood) and posters placed on street bins.
Council currently has a budget of about $100,000 to spend on Christmas celebrations.
The feedback will help us decide on future celebrations. Ideally, we’d like to foster a strong sense of community celebration and 'the spirit of giving' in the activity centres.
