Council is seeking community feedback on a proposal to sell two properties in Mount Waverley. The sale proceeds would be used to fund a refurbishment of the Mount Waverley Community Centre and the Mount Waverley Youth Centre.
The two properties which Council is proposing to sell by public auction are:
6 Holskamp Street, Mount Waverley
(Certificate of Title, Volume 6132 Folio 370)
14 The Highway, Mount Waverley
(Certificate of Title, Volume 9484 Folio 072)
These properties are currently occupied by the Monash Waverley Community Information and Support Services (MWCISS) and The Highway Gallery (a community art organisation). Council believes these properties, which are more than 40 years old, are no longer suitable for community purposes. If the sales proceed, The Highway Gallery and MWCISS will both be re-housed in the refurbished Community Centre/Youth Centre precinct.
The refurbishment would further establish the precinct as a vibrant area where our community can enjoy cultural and artistic activities and receive community support services.
Council has already begun consulting community groups that use the facilities on what improvements they would like to see and what features should be retained. Groups, including the Friends of The Highway Gallery and MWCISS, will be invited to sit on a steering committee that will have input into the design of the refurbishment.
While the key purpose of the sales is to fund the refurbishment, if there is a surplus it will be used for future Council projects.
