Celebrate the Year of the Pig at the 2019 Glen Waverley Chinese New Year and Lantern Festival, which will be a feast of colour, music and food.

The festival will be held on Sunday, 17 February in Kingsway.

The annual Chinese New Year celebration is the most important cultural festival for the Chinese community. It celebrates the coming of the New Year and has rituals, traditions and ceremonies designed to bring new luck and good fortune for the upcoming year.

In the Chinese Zodiac the pig represents the attributes of resilience, generosity and compassion.

This highly anticipated annual event is organised by the Monash Chinese Events Committee with support from Monash Council.

Traditional Chinese lion and dragon dance performances are a highlight with the spectacular lion dance on poles delighting all ages.

“It’s always great to see people come together to learn more about each other’s cultures,” Cr McCluskey said.

“The Chinese community is hugely significant to Monash and we value the important contribution it makes to the life and culture of our City.”
