Monash Council will fund more than $2.5 million in community grants to groups and organisations within Monash.

Monash has one of the largest community grants programs in Victoria and this year 255 applications were considered.

Council will provide cash and in-kind funding (including use of hall or printing) to 234 organisations and services who met the funding criteria including:

  • $823,271 to Positive Ageing
  • $709,111 to Specialist Services
  • $483,361 to Neighbourhood Houses
  • $309,856 to Community Strengthening Activities
  • $151,919 to Arts and Cultural Projects
  • $42,320 to Major Festivals
  • $55,449 to Community Events.

The evaluation panel also decided that $10,787 would be allocated to the Neighbourhood Matching Grants program. This will increase the available funding, for grants of up to $2,000, provided to small groups of neighbours who band together to make a positive impact on their neighbourhoods.

Monash Mayor Paul Klisaris said the number of requests demonstrated the value of the program to the Monash community.

“Monash Council is proud to support so many wonderful groups whose work makes such a difference in our community,” Cr Klisaris said.

“It’s fantastic that we have so many organisations apply for funding and we’re pleased to provide this support to so many worthy groups who really are the heartbeat of our community.

“We try our best to support as many groups as we can but unfortunately, we can’t support every organisation. We spend a lot of time making the decision about which programs and organisations to support and believe our choices support those groups that are meeting the real needs of our community.”
