Monash Council is encouraging families to consider Family Day Care as an option for their children’s care.
Monash Family Day Care is an approved home based child care service which offers professional education and care for children from birth to 12 years of age in the safe home environment of registered Family Day Care Educators.
The service is also looking for qualified educators to join our network. In particular Council would like to hear from educators from a culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) background.
In Monash, almost 50 per cent of residents were born overseas with 106 countries represented – the top three countries for overseas birthplace being China, India and Sri Lanka.
Syndal-based Educator Chathuri Kariyawasam (pictured above) said she loved working with a small group of children.
Chathuri said she was inspired to train in childcare education after being a parent helper at her children’s kindergarten.
“Family day care works in very well with our family life and I enjoy teaching new things to the children I care for,” she said.
Glen Waverley-based educator Chinthanie Mahanama (below) said the support from Monash Council was excellent and she enjoyed the close focus she could give to small groups of children and get to know their families.
Qualified Council staff administer the service in accordance with the Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations.
Monash Family Day Care’s philosophy is that children should be educated and cared for in a safe, warm, secure and loving environment that is respectful of their cultural diversity and fosters a sense of belonging in the family day care community.
All potential carers undergo an assessment and training prior to becoming a Monash Council Family Day Care provider. For more info phone 9518 3074 or go to www.monash.vic.gov.au/Family-Day-Care
