It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Monash, with festive decorations adorning major activity centres and a line-up of fun performances and events kicking off across the City over the coming weeks.

The launch of the Christmas period will be celebrated on Friday 26 November at Eaton Mall Oakleigh, with the lighting of Oakleigh's well-known and much-loved seven-metre-tall tree. Roving performers, a Brass Band and students from Players Theatre will join in the fun at the small community event from 5pm – 7pm.

From 13 – 24 December, the 12 Days of Christmas in Monash program will feature free daily activations with roving performers, acoustic duos, neon lighting activations and the opportunity for children to win a visit from Santa.

Cheeky elves, giant candy canes and singing nutcrackers are just some of the roving entertainers that will be spreading Christmas cheer across Monash. Christmas-themed neon installations, such as baubles, candy canes and Christmas trees, will also be popping-up across the City, injecting a little fun and excitement into the festive season.

An exciting competition will also see four lucky winners receive a personal visit from Santa to their homes. Entries are now open and close on Sunday 12 December.

Monash Mayor Stuart James said that, while Council was unfortunately unable to hold its Monash Carols by Candlelight event at Jells Park this year, the Christmas series would offer something for everyone to enjoy.

“This has been a tough year for our community and as we come out the other side of restrictions, we’re excited to come together safely and celebrate the festive season with a family-friendly series of events,” Cr James said.

The fun won’t stop there either, with an exciting series of events planned throughout January.

The Monash Summer Series of cultural performances will be held in local parks and areas across the City on weekends in January and will feature a mix of high-quality engaging performers, ranging from professional artists to local up-and-comers.

All activities and events will be held in COVIDSafe environments.
