Media Response Oakleigh Golf Course Fees

Questions & Responses

We are doing a story about the price rises at Oakleigh Golf Course as part of the new financial year.

The draft Budget shows prices have risen dramatically for concession nine-hole games and weekend adult prices (9 and 18 holes).

Up 26, 25 and 26 per cent for one, 10 and 25 nine-hole concession rounds respectively. Adult weekend prices have risen 21 and 18 per cent for nine and 18 holes respectively.

The rest of the prices have only increased incrementally.

As comparison, the nine-hole concession at Waverley Golf Course has risen just 4 per cent.

Why have the prices gone up so much for these particular rounds?

The round fees at this course have been far cheaper than comparable courses for many years. While there has been an increase from $10.70 per round to $13.50 for a mid-week round, we consider the proposed fee to be great value and brings the Oakleigh Golf Course fees in-line with comparable Public Golf Courses.

What is the justification for them?

When compared to similar Public Golf Courses, the proposed price is still more than 10% cheaper, and we believe  provides great value for people wanting to have a round of golf. The proposed price at Oakleigh is still more than $2 cheaper than the cost of 9 holes at Waverley Golf Course.

How do these rises balance with the Active Monash focus for trying to increase activity of elderly residents?

Providing opportunities for positive ageing and being active is something we are committed to for older people who use our recreation facilities in Monash and through our Positive Ageing Lifestyle Groups, where many of the activities on offer are free to older adults.

We believe the proposed new price for a round at Oakleigh Golf Course still represents great value for those wanting to enjoy golf, keep active and socialise with others.

We also offer very affordable prices for concession card holders at many of our other recreation facilities in Monash including our pools and gyms which generally offer a 10% discount for concession holders and pensioners.
