Monash Council Mayor Cr Rebecca Paterson

We are very pleased to announce that the eight-year boy who was found face down in the children’s play pool at Monash Aquatic & Recreation Centre (MARC) last Thursday and revived by the centre’s lifeguards has been discharged from the Royal Children’s Hospital.

The boy’s mother has made contact with us and asked us to pass on the great news to our community.

"We are thrilled that he is well and now back home with his family," Cr Paterson said.

"He is very keen to come back to visit MARC and meet the lifeguards who rescued him."

"We also thank the community who showed such concern for this little boy and his family, as well as our staff at MARC."

Last night at Monash Aquatic & Recreation Centre (MARC) a young boy was found face down in the children’s play pool.

A lifeguard began CPR immediately. Emergency services attended the Glen Waverley centre at around 5.30pm. At the time, the boy was playing in the children’s pool and not attending a class.

The boy was taken to Monash Health and later transferred to the Royal Children’s Hospital.

I have been in touch with his family and will continue to do so. Our thoughts are with them at this extremely difficult time. We are providing any support we can to them.

We will provide a further statement if more information becomes available.
