Works to upgrade the shared path and intersection on Hanover Street and Golf Links Avenue in Oakleigh, to improve safety for pedestrians and bike riders, will start in late March.

These works are an extension of the upgrades by Metro Trains to the historic Hanover Street Railway Bridge, where two narrow footpaths were replaced with a single, wider path on the western side of the bridge in 2013.

The new works will include the Burlington Street/Hanover Street intersection and Golf Links Avenue/Princess Street roundabouts, and will take approximately 10 weeks to complete.

Please see map of location of works. (pdf, 958KB)

Council will install a two metre wide pathway on the southern approach of the bridge to the Princess Street/Golf Links Avenue roundabout to match the existing pathway over the bridge.

Other works include:

  • Replacement of pedestrian fencing and guard rail as required
  • Construction of a raised pedestrian crossing in Hanover Street, to the north of the Hanover Street/Burlington Street roundabout
  • Associated minor drainage, pavement markings, signage and replacement works
  • Maintenance works at both roundabouts including replacement of central islands and road pavements.

Two-way traffic flows during the day will be maintained as long as possible, however temporary short-term road closures may be necessary.

Traffic diversions will be put in place if this occurs. There will be traffic management in place during the works.
