Waverley Road Wetlands – maintenance works to improve wooden boardwalk

 03 December 2021

Melbourne Water will soon be undertaking maintenance works to improve the aesthetics and functionality of the wooden boardwalk within the Waverley Road Wetlands.

These works are programmed to give longer life to the asset as well as making the crossing safer for users.

Healthy rivers and creeks are important to Melburnians. They provide water for homes and farming, sustain wildlife and are enjoyable places to visit.

Melbourne Water carries out regular activities including asset management works to help protect and improve the health of our rivers, estuaries and wetlands so they can support the values we care about.

What do the works involve?

The works will be carried out between 15 December 2021 to 22 December 2021, weather dependent. Works involve revarnishing the wooden timber with a protective coating along the handrails and applying an anti-slip product on the timber decking.

The works will be carried out between 7am and 4pm, Monday- Friday in accordance with EPA guidelines.

Melbourne Water will make every effort to minimise the impact of these essential works on the local community and the environment, and thank you for your patience.

Local impact of the works

You may notice an increase in vehicle traffic in the area as maintenance vehicles and material will need to be supplied to undertake the works.

A detour will be introduced over this period allowing users to continue their thoroughfare. See below map of proposed detour.

Waverley Road Wetlands - Melbourne Water

Detour: Take a left along the Scotchman’s Creek trail at the footbridge, cross over the footbridge within Regent Street Reserve, take a right up to Oxford Street and continue up to Lawrence Road approx. 350 metres, you will then join the existing track from the Waverley Road Wetlands.

How are these works funded?

These works are funded by the Waterways and Drainage Charge collected through Melburnians’ water bill. We work to deliver waterway improvement projects efficiently and responsibly to maintain the drainage network.
