We are encouraging our community to follow the latest advice of the government regarding the Novel Coronavirus and at present that’s for people who have been in mainland China (excluding Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan) on or after 1 February 2020 or in Hubei Province (China) to self-isolate for 14 days after landing in Australia (other than when seeking medical care).

Otherwise people unaffected by this advice can go about their lives as normal and that includes eating out and shopping and supporting our local businesses across Monash.

However, it is important that everyone does what they can do to reduce the spread of the virus. Ensure you practice good hand hygiene by washing your hands after using the toilet and before eating, and use a tissue to cover your mouth when sneezing or coughing.

This is a rapidly changing situation and people should keep up-to-date with the latest information from the State Government, including the Department of Health and Human Services, who we are in regular contact with.

Council has been providing support to our traders by providing posters and information from the Department about the Novel Coronavirus.

We continue to meet and talk with traders and provide information and we continue to advocate that Monash is still a great place to visit.

Over the next few weeks, we will making some upgrades to Kingsway, Glen Waverley that include new colourful and striking flags.

We hope that by that time, this crisis will have passed and we can use the opportunity to promote our wonderful community.

We will continue to monitor this issue and provide up to date information on coronavirus through our website.

Anyone who suspects they may have the coronavirus should call a dedicated hotline on 1800 675 398
