Pensioner Rate rebates

In 2020/21, eligible Monash pensioners can receive up to $368.00 off their annual rates bill for their principal place of residence.

This includes a $241.00 State Government rebate and a $50 Council rebate + $27 Recycle Levy Rebate. This is the sixth year that Council has provided an additional rebate. The aim is to reduce the financial pressures for people on low incomes. About 10,500 Monash eligible pensioner residents will receive the combined rebate..

People who receive the rebates also automatically receive a $50 rebate on the Fire Services Property Levy, a State Government levy which is included in the annual rates notice.

Ratepayers are eligible for the rate rebates if they hold a:

  • Pensioner Concession Card issued by Centrelink or Department of Veterans' Affairs
  • Department of Veterans' Affairs Gold Card - War Widow (WW) or
  • Department of Veterans' Affairs Gold Card - Totally and Permanently Incapacitated (TPI).

People who receive unemployment benefits or holders of health care cards do not qualify for the rebate.

Do you have an eligible card? To check, visit the Department of Health and Human Services  website.

To receive this rebate, the name and address on your concession card must be exactly the same as the name and address shown on the Rate Notice for your principal place of residence.

Each year, Council undertakes eligibility verification checks with Centrelink and DVA to confirm a pensioner’s ongoing entitlement to the rebates.  However, once you have started receiving the rebate, you do not need to re-apply each year. Unless your eligibility to receive the concession changes, the rebate will simply be taken off your Rate account until further notice.
