Asset Protection

Public Assets include: drains, cables (electricity) and pipes, nature strips, roads (roadway reserves), footpaths and bike lanes.

These are known as public assets and infrastructure, because the public has a right to the continuance of the services they supply.

These are officially owned by our local councils when they aren’t the official property of the utility companies, like Melbourne Water, that use them. As such, Council has the right and responsibility to protect these public assets. So when you need to use them in a way that prevents others from using them, you’ll need to let Council know and get permission.
