If you wish to renew your Registration for your Business, you can do it Online or in person at Monash Civic Centre or Oakleigh Service Centre.

 

Guidelines

The Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 requires that businesses engaged in the following be registered with Council:

  • Hairdressing
  • Beauty Treatments including: Waxing, Manicures, Pedicures and Facials
  • Skin Penetration Procedures including: Ear Piercing, Body Piercing, Electrolysis and Tattooing

The Victorian Department of Health has developed the Health Guidelines for Personal Care and Body Art Industries.

These guidelines will assist those involved in the personal care and body art industry to comply with the Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2009 by providing information on infection control and precautions to protect clients and employees.

Inspection

Council's Public Health Officers regularly inspect all premises throughout the year to ensure that staff is complying with the Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2009.

Home Occupation

Many people operate their own small business from their residential home. Such a use is called Home Occupation. The Monash Planning Scheme allows a person to use their residential home for home occupation provided certain specific requirements are fully satisfied.  Please see the following guidelines for details: Home Occupation.  

Please note, if you wish to prepare and/or serve food or engage in beauty therapy practices, the Public Health Act 2009 requires you to receive registration and be compliant with regulations.
