Events in Public Spaces

Whether you are organising a public or a private event, if it occurs in an outdoor public space anywhere in Monash, it is advisable that you consult Council to ensure that you have all the necessary approvals which related to your event.

This ensures public safety and amenity in Monash’s public spaces and assists in the sustainable management of our parks and reserves.

Community Events Liaison Officer

The Community Events Liaison Officer provides support and advice to community event organisers in the Monash community.

If you are planning an event in Monash, we suggest that you speak to the Community Events Liaison Officer for advice and guidance on what sorts of approvals (if any) you might require from Council and other authorities.

Booking a Reserve

Both Active Reserves (e.g. sports grounds) and Passive Reserves (e.g. parks and green spaces) are able to be booked for events, however there are some limitations on their availability and suitability for certain types of event activity.

Monash Events Guide

The Monash Events Guide is a user-friendly guide that has been created to assist event organisers to plan their event plan so they are aware of what permissions and approvals may be required from Council and other authorities.

This document includes information on holding events in parks and reserves or roads, and it also includes a range of useful templates.
Holding a successful and safe event requires careful planning. Events often affect the day to day activity of the area where there are being held. Larger events may also require the assistance of public authorities including Victoria Police, public transport providers and emergency services.
