Monash Council is hosting Girl Geek Academy’s Miss Makes Code workshops for girls aged 5-12 on Saturday, 16 March at Wheelers Hill Library.
These FREE workshops are designed to build confidence and self-belief for young girls in the areas of algorithmic thinking, programming and coding.
Monash Council is aware that women are underrepresented in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) related fields and experience a range of barriers getting involved in gaining access to this industry, which impacts their future career opportunities. Some of these barriers begin early where girls are not encouraged to explore these skills through play. These unique all-girls workshops is a terrific way to introduce children to coding and game making and build their technology confidence.
The workshops also offer the opportunity for women to experience coding alongside their daughters, granddaughters, nieces, family friends etc. as well as the ability speak openly about cyber safety and gender equality issues.
