Monash residents are encouraged to attend local services to commemorate ANZAC Day.
People are encouraged to pay their respects for all Australians who served and died in war and operational service. These ceremonies are organised by local Returned Services League (RSL) branches:
Ceremony on Sunday 23 April at 10.15am:
- Glen Waverley Cenotaph, Kingsway
(behind Glen Waverley Library)
preceded by a short march from the Waverley RSL Sub-Branch car park (off Glendale Street)
Ceremonies on Tuesday 25 April at 6am:
- Clayton Cenotaph, Clayton Rd
(in the “Remembrance Gardens” of the Clayton Hall)
- Original Glen Waverley Cenotaph in front of Central Reserve, Springvale Rd
- Oakleigh Cenotaph, corner of Drummond St and Atherton Rd
The Oakleigh Carnegie RSL Sub-Branch will hold a Dawn Service on Tuesday 25 April at the Oakleigh Cenotaph (Cnr Drummond St and Atherton Rd, Oakleigh).
Commencing at 6am, the service will include a Guard of Honour by the Australian Great War Association, who will also conduct a Gun Salute at the conclusion of the service. The club at 95-97 Drummond St Oakleigh will be open following the service for breakfast (gold coin donation).
Members of the community are also welcome to attend the club during ANZAC Day to watch the ANZAC Parade and Service in the City and the AFL ANZAC Football Match in the afternoon.
