Monash Carols by Candlelight 2019

The FREE annual Monash Carols by Candlelight is just around the corner. Pack a picnic rug and head down to Jells Park on Sunday 8 December to celebrate the festive season!

Once again hosted by the ever-popular Pete Smith, the Monash Carols will feature an amazing line-up of soloists plus the Monash University Chorale and the Monash Carols by Candlelight Band (comprising members from Monash Concert Band and Oakleigh Band, under the musical direction of Bob Moody and Chris McGillen).

Soloists include: Dan Hamill, Bella Paige, Belinda Parsons, Keenan Te and the Amore Duet (featuring Stephen Coutts and Samantha Robertson). 

The event will kick off at 4pm with the Kids Tinsel Town which includes free rides and activities for children and an opportunity for a photo with Santa (so bring your camera along).

Pre-show entertainment featuring Bethany Fisher starts from 7.15pm, with the main concert starting at 8pm

The Monash Carols by Candlelight is a live captioned event. Candles, glow novelties and a selection of drinks and snacks will be available for purchase throughout the evening.

  • Please leave your four-legged friends at home as the fireworks can cause distress to animals
  • Bring a torch, comfortable shoes, picnic rug and warm clothes
  • Parking is limited so plan your journey.

Visit this site for a free wristband, write your details on the wristband and secure around your child’s wrist in case you get separated.

  • Tinsel Town from 4pm - 7pm featuring kid’s activities, jumping castle, face painting.
  • Santa Photos from 4pm - 6pm located near the Information Tent. Bring your own camera.
  • First Aid located near the information tent. 

Free limited parking in several locations including;

  • Jells Park, Central car park - accessible via the main entrance on Waverley Road.
  • Jells Park, Ferntree Gully Rd car park - accessible via Ferntree Gully Rd (east bound)
  • Jells Park, Ferntree Gully Rd overflow car park - accessible via Ferntree Gully Rd (east bound) - weather permitting
  • Waverley Women’s Sports Centre car park - accessible via Waverley Road
  • Waverley Public Golf Course - the entrance is located to the left of Jells Park’s Waverley Road entrance
  • Accessible Parking is located in the Jells Central car park - please speak to a car park attendant if required
  • Drop Off Zone is located in the Jells Central car park - please speak to a car park attendant if required.

Does the event have accessible features?

Yes. The Monash Carols by Candlelight has large screens, Auslan interpreters and live captioning. There is also accessible parking.

Can I bring my dog to the Monash Carols by Candlelight?

No. All four - legged friends are asked to stay home as the fireworks and large crowds may scare the animals.

What food and beverage options are available? 

A range of meals, snacks and ice cream are available for purchase (vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options). 

Information about the fireworks

The fireworks finale is scheduled to commence at 10pm (and will go for approximately 5-8 mins).

Please note that in the interest of public safety, the pathway that leads to the back of the stage area to the Jells Park, Ferntree Gully Rd car park will be closed to the public approximately 10 mins prior to the fireworks display and 10 mins after. Once this area has been deemed safe this pathway will be reopened for pedestrian access.

Fireworks display is dependent on weather - high winds and extreme weather including a declared day of Total Fire Ban.
