Community Safety Month

Community Safety Month is held across Monash every October and reminds us that we all have a role to play in keeping our community safe.

Monash Community Safety Month brings together a range of fun, interesting and practical safety events, workshops and community get-togethers for the Monash community to participate in. Read more below about this year's events.

Gender Diversity & Safety Forum 

Wednesday 13 October - 6.30pm to 8pm

Nevo Zisin (they/them) will be presenting on gender diversity, and what our community can do to ensure that Monash is a safe place and free from discrimination for our LGBTIQA+ community. Nevo Zisin is a queer, non-binary, performer, writer, activist and public speaker based in Melbourne. Author of award-winning Finding Nevo (2017), a memoir on gender transition and The Pronoun Lowdown (2021), a useful guidebook on all things related to pronouns. 

Introduction to Water & Water Safety Program

Saturday 16 October - 1pm to 3pm

The ‘Introduction to water and water safety program’ is designed to educate and arm participants with different resources and techniques required to stay safe in different water environments. Participants will be introduced to water and become aware of their own abilities and limitations. It will provide interactive lessons to teach basic water safety and how to perform water rescues in various situations and environments.

Victoria Police's Crime Prevention Officer will be presenting on how to address online safety concerns. Topics include:

  • How to report online safety concerns
  • Reporting to the eSafety Commissioner
  • Spotting and reporting a scam
  • Safer online shopping and banking
  • Staying safe on social media

Restart a Heart Forum

Thursday 28 October - 11am to 12 noon

Ambulance Victoria presents Restart a Heart - a global initiative to raise awareness and educate the community about CPR and automated external defibrillators (AEDs). Learn how to perform CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and know where AEDs are located and how to use them correctly. The presentation is part of “Shocktober”, a month-long campaign to highlight the importance of knowing where AEDs are located and ensuring they are made publicly accessible and registered through Ambulance Victoria.
