Moon Festival celebrations happening around Monash

2 -13 September 2019

During September Monash will be celebrating the Moon Festival with a diverse range of cultural events and activities happening across the community.

The Moon Festival celebrates the significance of the harvest and the importance of the full moon, symbolising unity and friendship. These cultural celebrations highlight Monash's diversity and give residents an opportunity to explore other cultures through music, food and shared experiences.

Exhibition - Wenxin Community Art Academy

An exhibition colourful traditional Chinese paintings by the teachers and students of local Mount Waverley group Wenxin Art Academy.

28 August - 8 September 2019

Gallery open: daily, 10am – 4pm

Lantern Making, Live Music and Painting Demonstration

Come down to the Track Gallery for FREE lantern making for children ages 2 and up, music by members of the River Chinese Band and a demonstration by the artists of Wenxin Academy.

Friday 6 September 2019, 10am – 12pm

Free Art Workshop – Traditional Chinese Painting

Come down to the Track Gallery to learn traditional Chinese painting in this FREE workshop by Wenxin Community Art Academy. Open to children over 8 years, and adults of all ages.

Chinese Association of Monash

This community Moon Festival celebration includes Chinese folk songs, dance performances, handicraft show, traditional food demonstrations and a lunch party. Visitors are welcome to join in the celebrations.

Notting Hill Neighbourhood House

Family, Harmony & Reunion

A family-friendly culturally inclusive event to celebrate the values of Family, Harmony & Reunion brings this significant cultural event to the wider Notting Hill Neighbourhood House community. Join us for a feast of East-Asian food, lantern making for the children, an illuminating lantern procession and moon cakes.

The Nightingale – Movie screening

In order to keep a promise he made to his wife, an old man sets off to her native village with a bird in a cage. Along the road, together with his granddaughter, he discovers new values, particularly those related to the heart. Presented in Mandarin with English subtitles.
