Mayor Paul Klisaris said this time of year is celebrated as a period of harvest and thanksgiving.
“Monash is famous for our diversity and cultural celebrations and the Multicultural Moonlight Festival will be a wonderful way for us to celebrate our south east Asian community,” Cr Klisaris said.
“The full moon symbolises unity and festivals like this bring families and communities together.”
The festival was the idea of Mount Waverley Ward Councillor MT Pang Tsoi with support from Cr Klisaris who both wanted to mark the importance of the Mooncake Festival in Monash’s multicultural calendar so the whole community could enjoy the celebrations.
Cr Klisaris said Glen Waverley’s vibrant town centre was the ideal place to hold the inaugural Multicultural Moonlight Festival and the event would feature stage performances, a hawkers market, food trucks, lantern making and other activities.
