The aim of this study is to determine how much food energy older people need to assist with the development of new equations for predicting energy requirements. The current equations used to predict energy requirements have been developed for younger individuals, therefore do not take into account changes that occur with the ageing process.

This study will be conducted at Monash University in Notting Hill.  Energy expenditure will be measured by consumption of a drink called doubly labelled water (DLW), which is both safe and non-toxic. You will also be asked to complete some questionnaires, have a DXA scan to measure your body composition and provide urine and saliva samples to determine how much energy your body uses. Free taxi vouchers to and from the centre provided if required. Time commitment is one half a day.
