"Friends of Dandenong Valley Parklands" is a group of people from the community who care for the Parklands and want others to enjoy and appreciate the various parks within the area in a caring manner. We work closely with Parks Victoria.
We operate as a specific park in the area between Wellington Road and Boronia Road along the Eastern boundary of the City of Monash.
Our aims are to encourage the use and enjoyment of various parks and to develop their facilities; to encourage community awareness of, involvement in, and understanding of the parks through education and direct experience; to support the protection, conservation and environmentally sensitive development of the parks for the benefit of present and future generations; to assist Parks Victoria staff in the development of facilities.
We do - revegetation plantings; making, installing, maintaining and monitoring the use of bird and animal nest boxes; seed collection and propagation of local plants; weed identification and removal in sensitive areas; building of bird hides; bird watching and recording; plant identification and monitoring; frog watches; water watch on creek and billabongs; indigenous plant garden; construction of facilities; publications and displays for public education; guided tours. Community Gardens Group;The Community Garden uses primarily Australian native plants in order to educate the community on the benefits of planting them in local backyards. The aims are to encourage involvement in the gardening program, provide social interaction, physical activity coupled with environmental learning. Activities involve planting, garden bed concepts & construction, as well as creating interpretive materials.
Local community groups, organisations supporting people with disabilities are encouraged to participate.
