Dumped rubbish

Dumped rubbish

If you see dumped rubbish in Monash, please report it to Council immediately on 9518 3555 or at mail@monash.vic.gov.au

We think it is important for neighbourhood pride that we respond promptly. We have a Customer Service Guarantee that we will respond to any reports of dumped rubbish within 24 hours (during normal working hours).

Following a successful trial in 2017, we now tape dumped rubbish in residential streets that is reported to us and write to properties in this area. We remind people that it is illegal to dump rubbish and request assistance with our investigation into who dumped the rubbish.

We then wait up to five days for the rubbish to be removed.  We found that at up to 50% of sites we returned to, the rubbish has been removed. This process helps us educate residents on the correct ways to dispose of unwanted household goods, such as taking rubbish to the Transfer station, utilising the annual hard rubbish collection service (August –September) or booking a paid-for hard rubbish collection. Over time, this approach is aimed at changing behaviour so less dumping occurs.
