The Victorian Government is currently running a large number of planning projects around activity centres and the proposed Suburban Rail Loop Stations in Monash and neighbouring municipalities.
For communities like Monash, with planning underway for SRL station precincts at Clayton, Monash Uni, Glen Waverley, Burwood and now the Chadstone Activity Centre it can be challenging to ensure that local input is taken into account in a meaningful and timely manner – especially given the Victorian Government’s constrained timelines for engagement.
The planning process is only the first step. In all of these locations the provision of infrastructure, public transport and community infrastructure such as schools and public open space is critical to ensure growth areas are functional and liveable places. The provision of this infrastructure by the Victorian Government is key to ensuring that these centres are attractive places to live and make a significant contribution to the 80,000 dwellings being sought. Local government input and involvement in these decisions is crucial.
