Monash Gardens for Wildlife: Indigenous plants and habitat gardening

Indigenous plants are the original or local plants that occur naturally, in each location. Over centuries they have adapted to the conditions within the local environment, such as the soil and climate, making them great additions to your garden.

By creating an indigenous garden, you'll be increasing biodiversity which is good for the environment and supports our local native wildlife

Join our Gardens for Wildlife program

We’ll help you to create an indigenous garden in your own residential property.

By joining you are eligible to receive:

20 FREE indigenous seedlings.
An optional visit from our Garden Guides who provide advice and a garden report (plus additional 20 FREE seedlings).
Fence signage or plaque.

Indigenous plant species and trees

If you are interested in species that are native to the Monash area, visit Indigenous Species in Monash.

Workshops and webinars

Council conducts a range of free Gardens for Wildlife events and workshops throughout the year run by educators, guest speakers, bushland crew and local organisations.
