Monash Council is partnering with RMIT University on Poetic Portraits, an intergenerational creative project to showcase the creative talent and diverse life experiences of different generations in Monash.

20 Monash residents aged 18-35 and 60+ each wrote 2 poetic pieces and had their portrait taken. The finished poems and portraits will be published in a beautifully crafted book and exhibited around Monash.

The creative journey will culminate at Monash Seniors Festival 2025, with an official exhibition and book event to celebrate the participants' work.

Artist biography

Anders Villani was born in Melbourne. He is an MFA graduate of the University of Michigan’s Helen Zell Writers' Program, where he received the Delbanco Prize for poetry. His first full-length collection, Aril Wire, was released in 2018 by Five Islands Press. Anders will guide the workshop to help participants write their poetic pieces. Read more. 

About Poetic Portraits

This collaborative project between RMIT University and Monash Council aims to harness the power of poetry and portraits to challenge ageist stereotypes and foster meaningful intergenerational connections.
