Looking to build confidence in business planning, finances, record‑keeping or registration? Or want to understand what's involved in starting a small business?

Essentials to strengthen your small business is a free online learning platform offering more than 30 short courses on topics including record keeping, cash flow, deductions, GST, superannuation and more.

To support these resources, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) is hosting a series of free online masterclasses over the coming months. These sessions are designed to help you understand the essentials of starting and running a successful business.

Session schedule:

• 12 May 2026, 12m to 1 pm: Essentials to strengthen your small business: How to set yourself up for success.
• 19 May 2026, 12 pm to 1 pm: Starting a small business.
• 29 May 2026, 12 pm to 1 pm: Record keeping.
• 2 June 2026, 12 pm to 1 pm: Cash flow for small business success.
• 9 June 2026, 12 pm to 1 pm: Tax time essentials: Claiming deductions for your home-based business.
• 16 June 2026, 12 pm to 1 pm: Tax time essentials: Claiming small business tax deductions.
• 23 June 2026, 12 pm to 1 pm: Tax time essentials: How to successfully report, pay and lodge correctly.
