Sakshi Thakur
Sakshi Thakur is a participant in Poetic Portraits, an intergenerational creative project to showcase the creative talent and diverse life experiences of different generations in Monash.
Sakshi Thakur OAM dislikes writing bios more than she dislikes pineapple on pizza.
Like the Robert Frost poem, she ‘took the one less travelled’ this time and wrote a bio about nothing and everything all at once, hoping ‘that has made all the difference’. While she is not as talented as Frost, she loves writing with a warm steel glass of South Indian filter coffee about the serendipitous and mundane moments of life.
She was born in Kuwait, migrated to Australia and is culturally Indian, and often writes about this cultural amalgamation. If you’ve made it this far, you can be the judge on whether her poetry is better than her bio.
dots.
chaos across my mirror.
everywhere and intentional.
acknowledging my aura.
my reflection picks my usual.
black.
placing it with pressure.
between my brows.
living our sutras.
opening my ajna chakra.
chaos in my mind.
*thoughts and thoughts.
acknowledging my anxiety.
my intuition picks illusion.
red.
is always hers.
full of rage.
full of love.
was always hers.
chaos in our worlds.
*dots and dots.
acknowledging her clarity.
my psychic power picks red.

Lemons and sevens
Does our tree still oversupply sickly sour lemons?
Does that guy I once dated still believe in triple sevens?
Have you sorted out your batting form and bowling action?
Have you figured out your social enterprise’s sustainable traction?
Are mama and papa finally enjoying the retirement they deserve?
Are you still writing poetry and performing taranas with the same verve?
Has your heart healed from this karmic heartbreak?
Has your soul revived from the lifetimes you’ve lived for your sake?
Are you able to survive this kalyug world, and allow peace to reign?
Are you able to find the capacity in your myocardium to have faith in satyug again?
Do you still make south Indian lemonade with our sickly sour lemons?
Do you still secretly feel connected to the universe when you see triple sevens?
