Michelle Pan is a participant in Poetic Portraits, an intergenerational creative project to showcase the creative talent and diverse life experiences of different generations in Monash.
Michelle Pan is a multidisciplinary artist who draws, paints and writes.
Drawing on her Chinese heritage and the lyrical tradition of Chinese poetry, she approaches language in abstract, intuitive ways – much like brushstrokes on a canvas.
Deeply inspired by impressionism, her visual and poetic work seeks to capture fleeting feelings, shifting light and the quiet in-between moments.

He was asleep
Facing the other way
I stare and stare
Staring at the sunshine
Shining quietly
The little dinosaurs
on his hat
Were smiling at me
Time became vacuum
I forgot heartbeat

Today
I walk to the beach
See the ocean
From the opposite side
Has not
Changed ever
I should have drowned
The nights long
The water cold
the aloneness
But I did not
I touched
The shore
Climbed over
I look at the ocean
Blue as ever
