Monash Recycling and Waste Centre accepts a wide range of non-hazardous items for recycling and disposal.

Opening hours: 7.30am - 3pm, 7 days a week
Closed: Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Sunday and before 12pm on Anzac Day.

During extreme weather conditions, the centre may temporarily close for safety. This includes when temperatures are above 36°C.

What's free for residents?

The centre is open to all members of the public. As of 1 July 2025, fees apply if you are not a Monash resident or ratepayer. 

Monash residents and ratepayers can drop off many items for free and access a discount on other accepted materials. To claim this, you must show our window operator original proof of residency or ratepayer status when you drive in.

  • Driver's licence (physical or on the official VicRoads app)
  • Current or recent rates notice
  • Current or recent utility bill (electricity, gas, internet).

Not accepted

  • Photocopies
  • Screenshots
  • Photos of documents.

If this is not shown, non-residential fees will apply.

Plan your visit

  • Check item is accepted: We do not accept hazardous materials, including chemicals, asbestos and domestic garbage.
  • Bring proof of resident or ratepayer status: Accepted ID includes driver's licence, rates notice or recent utility bill. If proof of ID is not shown, non-residential fees will apply. 
  • Payment: EFTPOS, credit card and cash accepted. We do not accept AMEX.
  • Hours: Check opening hours before you travel.
  • At the centre: Please remove any tarps so the window operator can view the load.

  • Car bodies, auto transmissions, car differential oil
  • Chemicals
  • Concrete dust, dust with high amounts of silica
  • Cooking oils (over 20 litres)
  • Domestic garbage
  • Liquid and hazardous wastes
  • Loose-fill or blow-in insulation
  • Petrol and fuels
  • Sawdust
