Enrolment Process Timeline

Step 1.Step 1: Expression of Interest (EOI)

When: Any time before first Monday of June, the year before your child starts kindergarten.

You can submit an EOI for up to 3 kindergartens any time before the first Monday of June, the year before your child starts kindergarten.

Early EOIs are not given priority and do not guarantee a place at a kinder, however they can help kindergartens plan timetables based on expected need.

Step 2.Step 2: Application, preferences and program timetables

When: First Monday of June – 30 June, the year before your child starts kindergarten.

If you’ve submitted an expression of interest (EOI), Council will email and SMS you at the start of June, in the year before your child starts kindergarten. You will be invited to apply for your kinder preferences before 30 June.

We will contact you using the nominated email and phone number from the EOI form, so please contact us if you need to update these details.

If you haven’t submitted an EOI, you can also apply from our website before 30 June.

To apply, list up to 3 kinder preferences, submit your documents, and check program times to make sure they suit your family’s schedule in the following year.

You can still apply after 1 July. However, these applications are processed after third-round offers, usually mid-August.

Step 3.Step 3: Allocation and offers

When: July – August, the year before your child starts kindergarten.

First-round offers are emailed (followed by an SMS reminder) to parents/guardians around mid-July, and you have 7 days to respond to the offer, or it is withdrawn. First-round offers are only sent to families who live in Monash, as well as families who meet the Priority of Access requirements.

Second and third-round offers are emailed in the following weeks with the same 7-day response time. These offers are also open to people who do not live in Monash.

Late applications are processed and sent an offer after third-round offers are finalised (usually mid-August).

Kindergartens are then notified of acceptances.

Please note:

If your child has not received an offer after each round, your child will remain on the waitlist for the next round.

If you decline an offer or your child remains on the waitlist, please contact us for groups with current availability.

Step 4.Step 4: Enrolling and starting kindergarten

The kindergarten will contact you to finalise enrolment information specific to their centre and to discuss starting date/time and what to expect.

Please note that your centre will ask for your child’s immunisation records. Read about obtaining immunisation records.
