Monash Seniors Festival 2024 was a resounding success, bringing together 2,035 attendees across a vibrant array of events throughout the month of October!
The festival hosted 33 events, including 6 Council-run activities and 27 community-organised events.
Thank you to the 19 community groups and many volunteers who made Monash Seniors Festival 2024 a huge success.
Golden tales, connecting generations
During the 2024 festival, we launched our inaugural Golden Tales competition, which celebrated and recognised connections between generations and the wisdom our older community members bring to our lives.
We invited older adults(ages 65+) to tell us about a special younger person and children (ages 4 to 14) to tell us about a special older person who has touched their hearts.
The winners and highly commended entries were announced to celebrate Grandparents Day on 27 October 2024, and are available to read online: Golden Tales Short Story Competition.
Local volunteer honoured at Victorian Senior of the Year Awards
Congratulations to local Monash resident Adelina Vanderzee, President of the Waverley Retirement Activities Group, who was awarded the prestigious Council of the Ageing (COTA) Victoria Senior Achiever Award at the Victorian Senior of the Year Awards.
Adelina is an avid volunteer who has shared her time and experiences at over 17 organisations and events in the past few years.
