Council is currently reviewing the Suburban Rail Loop Authority’s (SRLA) Draft Precinct Visions for Burwood, Clayton, Glen Waverley and Monash that were released earlier this month.
The Suburban Rail Loop has the potential to be a gamechanger for Monash’s transport connection to the rest of Melbourne. Whilst this transformational project has the support of Council, we have previously expressed reservations about the precinct planning process. In particular, the provision of planning powers to the SRLA, the size and intensity of development and impacts on existing neighbourhoods.
It is important that planning for these precincts focuses development and density in appropriate areas around the SRL station precincts. So we welcome the opportunity to make a submission to the Draft Precinct Visions and look forward to continued productive conversations with the SRLA and our local representatives in the Victorian Parliament.
Council’s submission to the Draft Precinct Visions will be considered in early 2024. We would also encourage members of the Monash community to share their views as local input into this transformational project is crucial.
